It all boils down to how you were raised gentlemen. I've got a 5 year old at home that washes his hands because that's what he was taught to do. This is a very sore subject for me. I find it utterly disgusting and very inconsiderate. I would have a company memo handed out on this subject. This would put everyone on guard and eventually they'll get caught. It's never to late to learn proper hygene. Putting aside the personal aspect, what if a customer (that is one who practices proper hygene) sees this? Just another way to make a bad impression.

Agreed Particus, I was just astounded and puzzled that this happened in my dealership. It seems like such a basic thing that you would like to assume everyone does, not just at dealerships, but everywhere.

So we fire them if they fail a "piss" test, right? Why cant we include hand washing as part of the test?

Seriously, if we can terminate for not answering the phone right, or not wearing a tie, I think it would be ok to fire them for not washing ther hands after using the facilities. I mean, if you wont shake there hands, why should your customers?

I don't think this is something I would put into a policy manual. You could issue a memo but then new employees will come along and not get that memo. I would put a sign in the restrooms.

So, I am visiting my wife in the hospital. I walked into the room, a nurse hot on my heels saying sir you did not wash your hands before you walked in here! i looked at my hands, and told her I didn't know I needed to, she replied that there was a sign by the door, we looked, it was in medical terms which meant nothing to me, but I then told her, look last night, I used the rest room next to the cafeteria, was unable to wash my hands there because there was no water. Don't you think it is important to wash after using the restroom? The nurse then left me alone, but since then, I wash my hands before walking into that room.

In the next SFE meeting, bring up the issue and form a CIT group.
Have the CIT group come up with a solution to the problem.
If that fails, have them clean the toilets without the use of gloves AND they can't wash their hands afterwards. Maybe they will then understand the importance of hygene. Enjoy the finger foods.

Reminders don't work and it's not our jobs to police bathroom habits.

It's a good policy and common sense to wash your own hands after you shake hands with someone, DO NOT eat from a community jar of anything that is unwrapped and DO NOT go to buffets if you can help it.

If you're really concerned, have your housekeeping crew kick it up a notch and clean door knobs, chair backs, countertops...anything the general public touches on a regular basis.

The thing I find really disgusting is when the kids toys in the play area look like they've been dragged thru the mud. Remember to clean that or replace toys that can't be cleaned.
