Open R/O's

We used to have a problem with large amounts of open R.O`s. We switched to paying our Techs. and Advisors on closed R.O`s only. That way everyone that has any influence on the R.O. also has some interest on when it closes. This pay can cause some people to get a little grumpy, but you can close to an internal account for the rare end of pay period larger R.O`s that dont close.

Don't forget counter tickets! I was a corporate parts manager for a small dealer group. One day, I walked into the Toyota store and ran an open tickets list. One, for a stereo, was to a parts employee, and was several days old. I asked him about it, the stereo was installed in his car, I told him to square away that ticket today, or I would take it higher tomorrow. Many dealers say they do not charge to employees, but what else is an open ticket ?

Arnien your last line is so true. I get that from svc sometimes as well with customers. "I mailed them a bill and they're going to mail us a check because I know we don't want to open a charge account for them." UH, HELLOOO, you just did!

I run open tickets for employees for the month. They all have charge accounts and have payroll deductions. Never had a problem. You have to take care of these people. They are the ones making your money. They are selling alot more product than what they are buying!

I don't have any problem with payroll deducts for employees and if they need to split something over a couple of pay periods that's usually fine too.

I completely disagree with handling this by keeping a ticket open. It should be recorded on the books.

I know at one dealership that I worked at, the RO's were still hand written, but the parts were put into the computor as a RO. WHen the RO was closed, we then had to close it out on the computor. Also watch out for the "sticky notes" for parts that were handed out, because the service manager did not want to start a repair order.
