Perpetual Inventory

Perpetual Inventory

Does anyone use the perpetual inventory program with ADP?

Our counts are off TOO frequently, and, if I wait for our controller to schedule a physical inventory, I will not be able to easily track the 'missing' part(s) through the computer because of file retention.

If we run a well organized and clean inventory, depending on inventory size, it should not be too difficult to run a physical within shorter time frames, provided the man power to complete the task.

Anyone?

jdpetey- how are you doing perpetual inventory. You can do it with PI and print count sheets for one or all bins. You still have to run PHP prep, which zeros the counts for those bins. I prefer this method, because all pre- and post-inventory reports can help pinpoint problems.

You can also use RBB report by bin, or simply write in a bin on. Post each part in PS with a "C" code, not just plus or minus.
(Example 123456 2 C would change part number 123456 to quantity of 2). Then run the plus and minus report.

Whichever method you choose, a perpetual inventory is an absolute must. I prefer to do complete PI every 6 months, and 1 complete perpetual in between, getting a total of at least 4 counts per bin per year.

Perpetual Inventory

Hello Hank,

I feel as though I may have misled with my original posting of my topic.

I was trying to find out if anyone uses the perpetual inventory system on ADP. I'm sure there's plenty out there using the system.

We don't have any program in effect at this time and I'm looking to develop one.

We haven't done a complete physical in two years and I just heard today that we have one scheduled for June 3.

But after our physical, I would like to have a better program to stay on top of discrepancies and errors.

I am interested in learning how to run the partial inventory sheets and so forth.

Is running a perpetual inventory a monthly, daily, quarterly, or as the term implies 'Perpetual'?
