What has been stolen at your store???

We had a couple brain surgeons break-in one night...caught it on tape. They were all through the store...THOUSANDS of dollars of tools and equipment available. They swiped some Ford BBQ sets we had in the parts display and a 19" monitor from the business managers office. Obviously not too bright though...they cut the cord from the monitor to the PC because they couldn't get at the box!! End result...monitor that was no good for anything anymore!!

Strangest, 32 tubes of RTV gasket maker. Had a counter guy going out back and huff them. He used to have bill collectors call and he would threaten to blow them up. This was pre-9/11, I would think he would get a visit these days. He finally got caught stealing from the cash box.
Biggest, had a office girl take over $150K from an account that the DP was supposed to be monitoring. This happened over the course of several years. May have been more, but they stopped counting when the insurance policy wasn't going to pay any more than that. Learned that the girl died of brain cancer recently.
2 weeks ago a new car was sold. Cash sale in the evening. The former GM said he put the cash in his desk when he locked up, of course it wasn't there the next morning when he came in.
Funny how management frets over the possibility of something petty going missing from the fixed end, but over the 40 yrs the group I work for has existed, they had over a million $ go missing and all of it from the front.

Just recently a dealer I worked at had 15 converters taken. On a Sunday night after the showroom closed up. One of the illustrious salesmen went back around 9pm because he forgot something and walked right by 2 guys under 2 different cars. talk about clueless!! Lucky they had cameras set up so the cops found the idiots who did it because they parked their "getaway" car right under the camera and when they pulled off the camera got their licence.

1978 - Raleigh, NC - Amburn Pontiac (now Thompson Cadillac BPG)

Customer came in asked the late (and great) Joe Hill for a timing cover for his Pontiac Grand Prix, when he got the price he blew off steam and then said forget it and marched out. Two days later during a lot party we discovered a brand new Grand Prix that would not crank because ... yep, you guessed it ... it was missing the timing cover!

I have a good one.
Back around 1996 in Orlando we had a pair of thieves try to steal a neon from the new car back lot. They got going about 15 mph and crashed the gate which held. So they backed up and tried it quite abit faster the second time. They hit the gate about 40 mph this time. It held again. You cold see their heads smash the winshield when the gate didnt give way. One of them was still there when the ambulance showed up. the funy thing was when i looked at the security gaurds report for that night it said all was well and no problems found. turned out the gaurd was asleep in the break room all night and never knew anything happened. He slept through the sirens and all!

Customer comes in a week or 2 later with t-tops on his car. Gm asks where he got them, and was told someone sold him a set. "Do you know who it was?" "No but I GAVE HIM A CHECK".

You wanted the wierd stuff. We had a lot attendant who would steal socks from customers vehicles. This was really hard to take seriously at first but once we had received multiple complaints that socks had gone missing from customers vehicles we planted a set in a car and waited for the attendant to spot them and take them. Lost his job over socks.

Your Swiss Miss was stolen? Is there no limit to what criminals will do? (Sounds like an inside job to me!)

Back in the late 70's when I worked in the San Jose area we had a couple of guys drive in the lot on a Saturday. Left in a big hurry with one driving an El Camino and the other driving a customers big block Corvette. They found the vette 4 hours later about an hour down the road, hood sitting on the roof, engine gone, no cut wires and not a scratch on it. Always wondered why those guys were not making a ton of money in a flat rate shop.

A few years ago, we purchased 3 safes for parts, service and the cashier after a rash of cash being stolen. I mentioned to the GM at the time to have them bolted to the floor. He answered me with a " Its none of your concern and that I should worry about the parts dept" in a very nasty tone of voice. Well, fast foward about 2 weeks, money was stolen again from the office except this time they took the safe. My answer to the GM, as he was being escorted off the premises was " Oh, I forgot to tell you, while you were on vacation the DP has me install camera's in the office, but I figured I shouldn't worry about outside my department....."
