GMVISS versus service department

I am interested in finding out what other dealerships have done to get ready for the 7/3/00 DCS shut down. We have invested serious money in networking our dealership and giving everyone a PC. We have a DSL line attached to the network. Thru this everyone with a PC can gain access to the internet. Our 5 advisors, dispatcher, and cashiers will all have E mail and access to GM world to perform Viss checks at their station. Advisors and customers will be able to E mail each other. In Silicone Valley, even the retired customers are internet savey! The last 2 service flyers I had a $5 coupon in it to give us your e mail address. The response was significant. Hopefully, we can communicate better thru e mail than thru snail mail; things like SOP parts, recalls, service flyers, etc. What's everyone else doing? Are you ready for 7/3/00??

More than the dealer beign ready, I wonder if their DSP is ready. July 3 is going to come very fast and I worry that some of the systems out there won't be up to speed yet.

I also wonder about the timing. The 4th of July weekend (and following week) is historically when GM totally shuts down most operations. Will there be enough support staff in GM to handle any problems that occur?

I to would love to hear about how dealerships are preparing for the big shutdown.

Although the date is set for 7/3/00, it is highly unlikely that DCS will be totally shut down. It will most likely stay up and running for a grace period between the systems change.

But don't take this as a way to buy a few extra days. It is important that everyone is ready the first week in July.
