GM Removing Policy Codes from LTG

Without a doubt, but it's not like the LTG can only be used after-the-fact. MOST dealer service advisors used the LTG to verify coverage. Plus, many of these decisions "E" and "D" are made once the diagnosis is performed. If a customer comes in at 55,000 miles with a diesel engine and a coolant leak, how does anyone know at write-up if it is a hose (not covered) or a water pump (covered)? Once the diagnosis is confirmed, the LTG can be checked to see if the part is covered. And dealers would find that exact parts list of diesel coverage where? In case a dispute with the customer who is there to determine this difference?

Plus most problems with claims are related to the Northeast and California emission policies.

The point is every major manufacturer has an emission or powertrain (if they have) identification by a particular part or labor code (ie. use this part and it is covered). Why doesn't GM offer the same basic information to dealers?

GM Removing Policy Codes from LTG

Woopigsooie stated: "The policy codes are not in the LTG to determine warranty elgibility."

How did you come to this determination?

Actually they are, or should I say, were used to determine warranty coverage in most every situation where there would be doubt.

From my experience, a diagnois is performed to determine the failed part, the tech goes to the advisor or WA who then looked it up in the LTG to determine coverage. You guys do it a different way?

I think what woopigsooie ( got to admit the nick is not easy to spell let alone pronounce) meant was good warranty administration starts with a good clean write up where the customer knows before they leave what they will be responsible for as well as what the factory will be paying for under warranty coverage concerning repairs. As a warranty administrator this has always been the goal before a repair order hit my desk (which is always after the repair was completed and nearly always after a customer has left the dealership). But in reality often there are questions as to coverage and what will pay under warranty and what wont pay. Lets be honest and look a the changes to warranty coverage made nearly every year or so plus for local coverages. That being said the fact the GM saw fit to remove the policy designations from the LTG can only serve to make the job of properly processing warranty claims more difficult for everyone at the dealer level (since WINS actually seems to know what is policy E and D etc when a claim hits their system, although not always!!)
MY suggestion to everyone is lets start a grass roots campaign and deluge our reps and the DBC and even our dealers to contact everyone in GM that the removal of the policy codes from the LTG can serve no purpose to assist dealers in warranty claim management. Of course I seriously doubt GM cares but at least we can make them aware of how their decisions impact warranty claim management. After all they claim they want to pay us everything we are entitled too, dont they? !!

And actually more the point, shouldn't GM want vehicle owners to get everything they are entitled to. Honestly, it won't be the dealers that end up getting the shaft most of the time -- if there is doubt to coverage they'll just charge the customer.

THIS IS JUST A THOUGHT, BUT DOESN'T THIS FALL UNDER THE LABOR TIME GUIDE REQUEST FOR REVEIW?? I WONDER WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF EVERY GM DEALERSHIP EMPLOYEE WHO ACCESSES THIS FORUM PRINTED THIS DISCUSSION THREAD AND FAXED IT WITH THE REQUEST FOR REVIEW FORM IN THE LTG WITH A REQUEST TO REINSTATE THE CODES??
