eliminate cashier?

Not only does our cashier handle service/parts payments, she manages rental and loaner vehicles, handles R.O. filing, and provides action on unpaid R.O.s. She never has a dull moment, and stays busy. Without her here, those tasks would have to be handled by other employees, and I surely wouldn't want to ask an advisor to do it, they should be focused on their "in process" customers at all times. I don't know what your work load is like, or your service department's layout, but it would be much too distracting and time consuming here. Perhaps instead of eliminating the position and adding additional work load to employees who are already busy, you might consider using the cashier for things other than just cashing out customers. Just a thought.

After reading WCockrell's response, I'd also like to say that I don't completely disagree with eliminating the postion. There ARE some positive things that would come from having an advisor cash out a customer. Any extreme variation in estimate to invoice could be explained at the cash drawer by the same person who gave the estimate to the customer. Any error on the invoice, such as missing parts or labor would be easier to catch also. I guess it's really a matter of weighing the good against the bad in this situation. If the advisors are cashing out customers, you may have to consider another advisor or two...again, depending on work load and the department's floor plan.

We eliminated the cashier position about 21/2 years ago I can tell you that it was the best thing we ever did. My front line Team love it there is no other person involved in the closing process with the customer. I am on Flex hours and 6 days have 6 advisors and handle 100 vehicles a day.
