its not that parts is neccesarily easier, there are usually much less resposibilities.
much less employees to manage, very little custoemr interaction and no sales resposibilities.

I have held both jobs. SM has triple the employees and stress + more than likely longer hours. They earn it.
Do any SM's get their day care license paid for by the dealership ?

Take one bin in your parts department and replace each part with it's value in real money (pick the o2 sensor bin) !!!!!!! Now tell your dp, sm , office manager and accountant you (the pm) have no responsibilities. Oh ya in the meantime keep the dms system, telephones, internet, priners, facility lighting and (whatever else you don't have responsibilty of !!! ) up and running.

Everyone has responsibilities, some people just don't actually realize what you (the PM) do every day!

When there is a facilty problem who's the first person they come to?...the PM! Why because he knows where all the secrets of the building are, breaker box, phone room, that extra water shut-off, the main hvac unit, how to adjust the t/stat, that exta key for that lock everyone forgot about and so on.....

All the managers of the dealer have responsibilties, some are just tangible vs. intangible responsibilities.

sp7128 , you forgot two things : Military Police /Shop supplies Security!

Plus , who does more paperwork than the Title Clerk !

Bottom line is each Manager should switch shoes ! Everyone in management where I work has done the other job , thats why we all get along....( I AM LUCKY )
