GM BRAKE EXPENCE ??

Ok who is NOT high in GM BRAKE expence? Talk about heading to the dark side .
My asm keeps telling me iam high compaired to my peer group , but won't tell me who they are? I am here in the North East Rust Belt and the rotor are rotting out. The pads rotting in place because they have never been lubed from the factory because of fresh paint . I know GM vehicles dont require maintence "opps sorry" Maintence I & II .
1)Whats your policy on rotors and pads?
2)How long do you warranty them for ?
3)Are you having the same probles outside the rust belt?
4)Have you had a audit because of brake expence?

Hmmm...same story here. I know its all a bunch of BS. They want the problem to be the dealer's fault and not theirs. Everybody is high despite what they say...ITS NOT YOUR FAULT!

I am in Florida and high vs. peer group also. Overall expense is below peer though.

Just make sure your techs are following the bulletin and documenting everything. We cover against pulsation for 3/36 as long as the pads are not worn out. Premature wear out is prior to 24,000. Other than that just do what they told you in the bulletin. We also do maintanence on our lathes once a month and document that too!!!

I suspect that some dealerships in the peer group are just telling the customers that the repair is not warranty. This would lower the groups brake expense. Dealers that are properly covering the expense under warranty look high by comparison. I agree with the others that you should apply the policy correctly and carefully document the repairs.

I will cover against pulsation for the duration of the warranty, but once it leaves warratnty no goodwill on rotors.

Here in Coastal Florida we have the most perfect environment on the planet for rust; prevailing onshore winds, high humidity and heat. Resultingly, we have a huge rust issue with brake rotors on vehicles that aren't driven on an almost daily basis.

Now, take a wild guess who lives in all those beachside condos? That's right, retired owners that use their vehicles less often than the daily commuters. Since this is not a defect in manufacturing or workmanship and is due to lack of use/environment, it is technically not covered.
We will usually cover one rotor turning, but my rep asks us only to do it once. The result is we are consistently high in brake work and we still have upset owners when they have to pay to fix this sort of thing. The rub is, there's just not a lot I can do about it...very frustrating.

I've lived in FL for 26 years in the Tampa Bay area and we don't have that bad an issue with rust. Surface rust after rain and sitting for a couple days is one thing but there's no where near the same problems as northern vehicles with road salt.

Most issues with surface rust just go away after you brake a couple times.

I'm in Tallahassee. We have more rotor squeal than vibration. Traffic is slow here so people stay on their brakes more.
I will allow brake repairs up to 24k unless there is a hydraulic problem or mechanical problem. We do not have a general rule about brakes, but will make the techs follow the bulletin and document, measure and record all findings as required. We also try to train the customers on why brakes squeal and vibrate.

woody, is the expense driven by part amt or labor, or a combination. you need to get your high freq op report for that group, inspect the ops, review the tickets and assure yourself that the documentation is sufficient to withstand an audit. we do 36 36 on rotors and pads about like everyone else. we arent high in atlanta market. sometimes, you get in trouble because of labor op selection and not repair process. make sure warranty admin. is coding correctly.
