We are a ford lincoln mercury mazda dealership and are required to update our factory training. Could everybody tell me how you are paying your techs for training. This is how we pay ours: If the tech is out of the dealership we pay 8 hours times techs rate, If taking ford star at dealership $20 per hour times class hours, We do not pay for web based training. Please help by giving me your input asap.

We pay 8.0 hrs for hands on training..out of dlrship at their flat rate, IDL or web training..flat rate times the time the course gives us for the class. Techs are not allowed to MAXIMIZE on training..bad weather weekend..tech does 70 hrs cb training. Not gona happen. We limit the weekend training to 10. hrs.

Our TEch pay plan states this:
Technicians will be paid for off-site training out of the dealership. The training pay will be based on the previous four-week average daily flat rate production for involves individual time personal pay rate.
Technicians will be paid 1/2 their hourly wage or minimum wage, whichever is higher, for approved in-house training completed and verified. A "flate rate time" shall be assigned to all Internet and Fordstar Courses as listed in the schedule. Specific time puches are required.

This allows the tech who is constantly over 100% productivity to be paid higher than his normal rate and the tech who's normally below 100% to be paid less than his normal rate. As each section of training as set up by the Service Manager, is completed the tech gets a raise to a higher base pay.
It also puts the burden of training on the technician.
