Diag time on RO's

Diag time on RO's

Let me get some input from you folks.

What is your process for recovering diagnosis time? For instance, we have been putting one line on the RO to start, mainly to cover our techs getting their diag time. Then, if the work is sold, we simply update that line to reflect the repair as well.

My thought was to add a second line to "Repair as per Diag" and go from there. If needed, a differant tech could perform the repair, provided the diag line was "storyed" properly. The writer would almost be forced to get the time for his tech also.

But I see some flaws with this. Would this not raise some questions with the customer, almost highliting the fact we were charging for the diag (even though it is fair etc, it never sets well). How would the writers handle this?

Appreciate any input from you folks...

Diag time on RO's

Most dealerships that I have visited that charge a flat fee for driveability, ABS and SRS diagnosis use a two line system. The first line is just as you stated the diagnosis. The second line is for the actual repair. This also allows for many systems to eliminate the hourly billing on line 1, to remove that discussion from the customer's thoughts. So it looks like:

A) Driveability Diagnosis --- $129.95
B) Replace O2 sensor 0.8 56.00

You can set the line a to be whatever price is competitive for your area.
