Your tech checks a system out, finds a small leak. Customer doesnt want to fix the leak. Do you offer a recharge? With dye? How much more do you charge after diag? Do you refuse to charge a leaking system? Is it illegal to charge a system with an identified leak?

My understanding of the GM rule is: If a leak cannot be readily identified, add freon to the correct amount..the system is supposed to have some dye in it from the factory, have the customer return in a few days to recheck for leaks. If this is a customer pay job and they refuse the job after diagnosis, we collect a diag fee and let them go with no freon.

We charge the customer for the dye and r134a as well as the labour to charge system. We also charge for the retest up front and explain to the customer to return within a week and A/C will be retested at N/C.

Do you evac and recharge? Or dump in a half a pound with dye and let it go?

With the evac and recharge, you are "doing it right" but less likely to get the customer to return for a recheck and repair.

If you dump a half a pound in, they may not make it through the summer, increasing the likely return for diagnosis and repair. ???

I would advise against recharging an A/C system that you've established is leaking. This can cause legal, and customer problems. If they don't want it fixed don't fix it, charge your diag. fee and let it go.
