Problems with service vehicles being left on racks overnight

We have 2 shifts, 7-4pm and 4pm-3am in our shop. Does anyone else have problems with techs downing vehicles that do not need to be downed on a rack that makes you money. Does anyone have a policy in place about vehicles being left in the shop overnight to prevent this from happening? May sound like an odd problem, but with 2 shifts it gets my day guys and night guys fuming with each other because 'their racks' are left with vehicles from the other shift!

It depends on the situation and people involved, but I worked with a SM that laid down the law - vehicles left on racks get either finished or slapped back together enough to get off the rack. If finished the finishing tech got all the time, and if slapped back together the other shift tech lost an hour of the job to the guy trying to clear his rack. The law really was never needed because along with this talk was one about how a lift generates a minimum $500 of gross per shift and it just can't be taken out of service. Exceptions always can occur - but on rare occasions.

We run split shifts. and we pay the guy that took it apart the diag. and 30% of the repair. then whoever finishes it up gets the remaining 70%.
