Required tools for techs

Do any of you have a list of tools that you require the tech to provide for themselves?

As I was updating our tool inventory, I found alot of tools that havent been used because the techs already have there own - pullers, slide hammers..etc. GM says we should own these tools, but equivalents are OK. These are also the types of tools that come up missing - which means maybe a tech borrowed our tool and forgot to give it back.

That is a really good answer. I'm with Chrysler and we have required tools that they send the dealer. If you want them or not. I put all my tools into the parts inventory and then they are handed out to the techs as needed. If a tech brakes a tool or looses a tool then they have to buy the replacement, but has far as what they are required they only buy what they keep in there tool box. Hope this helps.

I sorta doubt that the tools are "in the inventory" in the sense of an inventoried part that is bought and sold.

I think the tools are kept in the parts room and the inventory system is used to keep track of them.

Being the GM, I can "make" parts handle the tools, but thankfully, they understand that with over 100k in tools, they are the best to do so.

Do any of you have a list of tech required tools? Or, is your policy, if we dont have it and you need it, then you buy it.
