Sealing Floors

I just got elected to oversee the sealing and painting our shop floors. Can anyone recommend products use, something that is durable to withstand coolant and brake fluuid, and easy to clean. We want to this ourselves, not hire someone to do it.

Sealing Floors

I've only did this once with my dad in a smaller 8 bay shop. We used Sherwin-Williams ArmorSeal concrete epoxy.

Starting friday afternoon we began emptying the shop into the body shop stalls. The hardest part of the whole job was getting the shopped cleaned up and all the boxes, benches and tools out.

We precleaned with acid (I don't remember what kind, just that it ruined my boots and jeans) and a good floor scrubbing. Let it dry overnight with three blower fans running.

Saturday morning we started painting first thing in the morning and we're done by mid-afternoon. We did a couple of second coats over some of the earlier paint. We just mixed and rolled the epoxy. We went through a lot of rollers, but the surface was pretty rough. We left the heaters on all night to keep the shop up past 70 degrees to make sure we got a quick set.

Sunday we finished up the second coats on the heavy traffic areas and left just a single coat like where benches would be. You are supposed to have a like a 24 hour cure time, but we were done way before noon and keep the heaters on all night again.

Monday AM we began putting the shop back together.

Might want to look on the internet for a phone number. I saw their product at a car show in Houston. 1 kit will do close to 2 bays. i think the kit was around 600.00 dollars. That included everything from the rollers to the buckets and cleaners. Very nice product.

robc is correct that the acid clean and wash down is essential. We did the same thing but not as carefully and it will start to peel. Once you do this entire project, especially in a larger service area, you can see why the companies charge so much for the job.
