Variable Techncian Pay Rate based on type of work and class of techncian? Does everyone pay a Senior Tech just like a Junior Tech when it comes to maintenance items? Does everyone pay a flat dollar amont to a Tech for a Maintenance item or is it flat rate hours times a rate. If its flat rate times a labor hour who makes the rules for the labor hours on each maintenance job?

We just started with a baby step.
We are paying $10 an hour for lube and tire rotates to anyone that pulls it. We use standard pay times out of standard time guides. It has not gone over that great but its what we need to do in times like this.

To take it a slightly different way, I have been to a number of dealers as well as aftermarkets who have completely abandoned the traditional FRH system altogether and pay their technicians a percentage of the labor charged, usually 25-30% of the labor sale. REGARDLESS of the pay type or work type.
On one hand, I like it from the perspective of dispatching the work without having to marry-the-work to the appropriately costed tech, and it ensures you always have the gross profit percentage you want on labor.
On the other hand,everytime you raise your prices, the techs get a raise and that more or less defeats the purpose of raising the prices. It also means you dont have any operations that exceed the gross profit percentage you set.

Sorry just got back to this post I would love to talk to you about this process we have had a process in place for over 3 years but the 20 Groups and the Dealer Groups don't understand the process. I am just trying to improve my GP% we are currently running at 76.5% after discounts in a FLM store the Mazda store is 78.1%. The Dealer would like to move it to 80% looking for better ways!!
