I have, probably a really silly, basic question...i have been doing warranty for about 10 years now, but i have been at my current dealership for 6 months. Well, here is my problem...open repair orders. I like to close my ro's asap...like, the day after the vehicle has been picked up. So,why the open ro's, you may ask? Rentals...we wait for Enterprise to send rental bills, then when they do, we charge them out on the open repair order, then close it...well, these ro's are staying open for over a week...anyone have any ideas on how to help me...i'm tired of open ro's.

Had the same problem with the same rental company at a previous store I worked at. We finally sent the local enterprise office a letter by certified mail notifying them that we would not pay any rental bill not submitted within 24 hours of the vehicle being returned. We also reminded them of the other area rental companies knocking on our door seeking our business. Problem was 95% resolved virtually overnight. This also eliminated a lot of the "overcharges" where the enterprise agent didnt pick up the car until a day or two later and continually tried to add it to the bill.

Sometimes they need to be reminded that they may be the biggest; but are far from the only rental company out there. Don't hesitate to rattle their cage a little.

You would think your service advisors would make sure the bill from Enterprise would be received ASAP, so they can get paid for the RO. I know here that is what they do.

Franks, at our store we add a line on RO for rental and as soon as the advisor knows the job is complete they are to call rental people with PO# for the amount and this amt. is entered on the ro. and like Scot mentioned this is all they are going to get paid no matter when they choose to pick up thier car.
Also I won't allow any vehicles in the shop without and open RO and any time the vehicle leaves it is closed at that time.
Hope some of this may help.
