TECH PAY

Does any one out ther pay their techs as
salary plus commission?
It is being discussed at our dealership

salary would be their hourly rate times 40 hours....
commission would be percent of sales objective set for each tech with percentage
tiers for over achievment of goal

You could argue that our pay plan for technicians is hourly plus commission. We are a flat rate shop with a guarantee. The guarantee is we will pay you whatever is greater your actual clock time for the week-40 hrs or your produced hours-flat rate-above and beyond the 40 hrs. It is kinda of meaningless because the shop average is well above 130-140 % -Honda - It only becomes a factor for our quick lube guys. It is a nice comfort for a new tech coming on board- knowing he wont starve as he learns the systems as opposed to being a true flat rate shop without a guarantee.
