Warranty Administrator/Clerk Pay

With the advent of lower warranty repairs and the warranty cost going down, how has everyone dealt with their warranty person? Have you just left them alone and/or have you done any of the things listed below or others?

1: Cut Pay
2: Cut Hours
3: Combined Jobs
4: Added additional responsibilities
5: ----
6: ----

Etc.

With tighter cost controls inside of our Dealerships we are looking at every way to cut cost. Is this one place you can cut??? I would love everyones FEEDBACK, Please.

Bob

We just cut the salery by 20% and dropped a cashier. The warranty admin now backs up on cashier counter to fill some of the hours.

Coming in late here, sorry.

At the risk of over stating what is usually obvious to us but not usually obvious to GMs and DPs, be very cautious with anything having to do with your warranty admin.

If your admin is doing well, the schedules are clean, and the warranty expense in line, you want to make sure it all stays that way. It can all go the hell in a handbasket VERY quickly if neglected.

I'm not suggesting that warranty admins are untouchable in these rough times, but do be careful. The amount saved will look pretty insignificant if write-offs and audits start popping up.

I'm preaching to the choir, I know, but I had to say it.

Been there, done that.

Cheers
DD

as Old Irish states, thing can go very bad with warranty. we have a local dealer being audited and so far the charge backs are around $500k. if your clerk is doing a great job, I would not chage a thing. over burdened with petty stuff will lead to costly mistakes that might not show up for a year. (hello audit). treat them like management.

This store expects my Warranty Clerk to fill in any needed time the cashier is out, no pay, works 3rd Saturday, no pay, other items. I just pay her a bonus for the Saturdays in a way that makes up for the other. She is happy to get the extra $'s.
