If they all have plenty of work and are making good money being specialists you'll have a tough time.

If some are running out of work at 2:00 pm while some have carry-overs each night, that would be an easier "sell".

In my neck o' the woods, with small towns and most dealers being multi-line (we have five) a "specialist" who can or will work only within a narrow area is much less of an asset compared to a good bumper-to-bumper man who is capable of many tasks. I don't know your specific situation but you may be able to use that as a selling point.

Can you give us some more details?

Sorry I can't offer any specific suggestions

Good luck

Bumper to bumper is the best way to go. Less dispatch headaches. Only thing is that a good b to b tech can get the big bucks. With service information, TAC service and the GM forum, there is no reason a tech can't do it all.

I was thinking perhaps an arrangement on incremental $ for ase cert outside their specialized area, training in various skills.
i expect a hard sell whatever goes down.
any success stories would be helpful.

Thanks in advance....

I prefer the bumper to bumper. It moves jobs out faster, you are less likely to get into a jam if the "specilist" is out, and is generally better. Import stores have done this since they came into the country in the 60's. I was a tech at that time and had to do it all. There was no such thing as a specilist with those vehicles. Since I have been with GM, I have promoted this with my techs with the exception of transmission and diesel techs. Those guys have to have special training that is not given to the majority of techs. I keep a minimum of 2 of these tech. We write an average of 90 RO's per day and sell mostly GMC trucks. Also have Hummer, Cadillac, Pontaic and Buick. Have SAAAAB..but it will be gone next month.
