Who pays for the advisors?

avd41 I would say that you have a problem at your dealership. You keep saying that when the parts are ordered wrong, could it be that the tech didn't give all the needed info, could your manufacture sent it incorrectly. Bottom line Parts needs Service AND Service need Parts if your dealer lets your service dept order parts from another dealer he is really lost. As stated before go ahead and pay them for parts sales but expense it out through service to parts

AVD41 the service department has a tough job and it does make my job easier most days. The answer about what if service doesn't bring in customers is wholesale. I have been in stores that the service department did a horrible job getting customers and making a profit but the parts department did just fine.

Personnally I would rather work with my service department to help the entire dealership not just my department but not all service managers see it that way.

I totally agree with gmcgrew. I'm the fixed ops director at my store and job is hard enough without arguing with each other.

I have not met one person who can run the dealer by him or herself! Not a team play = find another place of employment!!

Who pays for the advisors?

it's true that service is the parts depts best customer, but they are seperate. it seems that everyone thinks "parts is parts" and anyone can do it. parts ordered wrong cannot always be blamed on the parts guy when the tech tells them what he wants. parts hates wrong parts as much as service does, angry techs, advisors, and now having to sit on a part forever before being able to send it back. If your going to pay service for selling parts, then lets pay the salesman for selling accessories instead of the advisor. after all, he sold them, not service. every department is dependent on each other to make a profit. keep them seperate.

I don't have an issue with paying someone on something that they sell. We currently pay the advisor out of parts for parts sold on an RO. What I don't agree with, is that they are paid off sales price not gross like the counter people so if something is discount deeply or like tire's where the gross is low it does not effect them as much as the c/people. We are two seperate dept's but we do depend on each other. I understand that service is our best customer but PLEASE stop thowing that in my face everytime this is brought up. As a part's dept we have multiple avenues of business that we need to take care of, all customers are important no matter where they come from.

Who pays for the advisors?

Question ? why is this brought up ? Service advisors ( or SM ) need ( or asking for ) a raise during this tough economic time ? And this would be an easy way to do it based upon what we have heard from a 20 group meeting or hired consultant ? Or maybe from another FOD on this website ? Does the person within the dealership pushing this issue have to worry about his pay being decreased ? It would be only fair to change ALL pay plans , not just a certain department................? We could all argue for weeks about who works harder or longer hours. Blah blah blah. I am a PM and certain SA's make more than me. And I'm ok with that !, based upon hours etc... Just do not ask me to take a pay cut ( when I'm holding good gross every month ) if everyone else is not............
I am not looking to upset anyone..........rather, make it fair........and make people think.............
JUST MY OPINION......................

The people that pay the Advisors and/or Service Sales Consultants/Advisors is the only real boss we all have the "CUSTOMER" If the pay plan is not set up properly shame on the Management Team.......It's not the Sales Person.......You can match 20 Group numbers all day long but If you don't have the Customer's coming in the door you fault is that????????
