Waste Oil Heater

We have radiant floor heating in service and parts and use the Clean Burn units. If I had to do it over again I would not have installed them. It's nice to have radiant floor heat. The techs and parts people like it. They are always in need of maintenance. They shut off a lot, probably from residue in the oil. Some of the problems we are having is due to the installer I think. If you do install any make sure you have an oil tank big enough to stockpile the oil. I am getting ready to install a 5,000 gallon tank to hold mine. We spend all summer having it hauled out only to have to buy it back in the winter.

We have 3, one in our main shop, one in parts, and one in our tire shop. This will be our 3rd winter with them, and the 1st winter, we couldn't keep enough oil on hand to keep them running. The 2nd winter we were able to do away with our natural gas heaters, and we saved a small fortune! This year we have extra cage tanks to hold oil, and a forklift to move them around. One hint, DON'T store the oil outside during the winter, it won't pump when it's cold, and will burn up the lift pumps.

One other thing to check, something that most people won't consider. Check with your insurance carrier to see if they allow them. A close friend of mine owns an independent shop and when his insurance agent came in he had to check to see if the shop had a waste oil furnace. I wish I could tell you which company that was, but whoever it was, they wouldn't cover a shop that had a waste oil furnace. The agent could not explain why.

Just want to give you a heads up on a possible problem.

Jaybee

we have had 1 for 10 years .. no problems but every spring it is cleaned and sent out for recondition .. this thing runs all the time .. ran out of oil 1 winter and just ordered a load of heating oil to get us thru.

maintenance is the key to keep them up and running .. they burn a lot of dirty stuff

good luck
