Comebacks Techs creating accountability

we have all agreed on a definition of a comeback "any time the owner returns and feels it is for a previous repair"

the ro is flagged and given to the dispatcher .. dispatcher gives it to the repairing tech .. the tech is given no other work until this ro is signed off by management .. service mgr or assistant mgr .. no advisors ..

we are not out to hammer the tech or the advisor we just want the car repaired for the owner ..
who pays ? the tech is paid if not his fault .. if parts are needed .. they may be just a cost of doing business.

Comebacks Techs creating accountability

As we all agreed upon early on this is can be a very complicated issue or a very simple one and I think it has many variations some of which are symptomatic of modern times. I can attest to the fact that shoddy workmanship and a "dumbing down" of work ethic runs rampant in today's workplace. "Old School" techs do not mind being called mechanics because their pride in workmanship is not driven by title. It is based on doing a job properly and completely because their name is on it. My house contractor is 74 years old and his adage is "when it's done right nobody notices, but when it's done wrong EVERYBODY notices". He considers himself relativley young so we can start doing the math based on that. I have noticed anyone (and they still exsist) mentored by someone of that mindset carries on the same tradition. Perhaps that is where the answer to this question lies.
