We had a 1969 Chevy Chevelle SS in our body shop for an overall paint job. We normally don't do those but if a customer will just leave it, we will work on it during down time. Well, it took about 6 months, but we finished it. It was beautiful!!!!! A few days later, the customer showed up to pick it up........It......was......gone. We looked the lot over, looked at security tape and nothing. It was gone. We called the police and our insurance company and filed a claim with both. The next day, the body shop manager opened the paint booth to start a repair.......you guessed it! THERE IT WAS! He had put it in there for safe keeping and forgot about it! We still give him grief over that one!

This is a pic of a Buick that was hijacked last June at our dealership between Saturday closing and Monday morning.

I was the first to arrive that morning and this is one of the pics I took. I thought I had deleted them but came across them.

The entire front and rear suspension were removed , including the popping out of the front axles. Knuckles, control arms, calipers, rotors and all. The entire rear lamp assemblies as well.

I believe they ran out of space to haul everything as they actually didn't even bother take the wheels and tires.

Most likely courtesy of all the new cordless impact tools available today.

The interesting thing was, they were very meticulous and didn't bother to cut any brake lines or hack anything up in a hurry.

Only 2 jack stands in the front, with one cinder block to keep from tipping. Nothing supporting the rear. Quite a sight to see that day.

jdpetey:

I have to ask, What happened to the Buick? Total loss, or did you have to fix it?

I had to provide an estimate to the local police to determine an approximate value of the loss, but I believe the customer had to turn it in to their insurance. I never heard the final outcome, but the vehicle was flatbedded away.

The customer actually tried to insinuate that 'It had to be an inside job' because we did not store it inside over the weekend. That approach was unsuccessful.

Whoever did it and why was a mystery because ultimately who would have actually found this necessary.
