Unused Ignition Recall Kits

I do not foresee these parts kits ever being listed in the parts catalog as replacement parts.

We are a small Buick-GMC dealership that is seeing less and less requests for these parts, and we have completed the majority of the requests we will have seen.

I would anticipate that GM will quickly change the return status to 'N' as soon as they reach a certain threshold of parts required/parts produced. As of right now, they still show a 'Y' for return in EPIC.

The only way forward to return them would be to use the CSO Code 11 return with the 35% fee after that point.

Just a thought, if I were a larger dealer, I would be reviewing all the unused kits and using current return reserves to unload these parts and dump them back on GM before that time comes.

Checking IVH for vehicles that have had the repairs performed at other dealers will help determine which ones you may get stuck with.

Unless they offer a 'Special Return' procedure for these parts, they will be sitting around forever unless you take the hit.

Easier for former Pontiac stores to accomplish. Good Luck to the larger Chevy stores.

Just an observation based on 'stuck with' older non-returnable recall parts.

Just yesterday I asked my service advisors to start putting phone customers on hold when the customer is asking us to order parts for the recall. The advisor is to call parts and find out if we have a kit in special orders that's been sitting for a while...if we do, the service advisor is to schedule the customer in ASAP. The pile of these kits we have that hasn't been installed is insane and I'm not getting stuck with them all.

I too am a small dealer and I was looking at this yesterday. I currently have 20 kits on the shelf waiting on the customer. Probably 10 of these I know will come in. The other 10 I will probably never see again. Most of these date back 30-60 days.

Also, unused recall and campaign parts can be returned as per P&P, I think it is a MR code 12.

You might have to handwrite it and send directly to your admin PDC - ??

What if service had not only had the keys pre-cut but the cylinders pre-set before an appointment was made? Sounds like service pays for the kit and set up fee.
