Totally agree with you GT, but based on original poster's comment, I don't think he is planning on going the sitcom route. Sounds like he has a more educational/informational book in mind. Not a bad idea, but I imagine there is a plethora of management books out there doing what is proposed...if you can find a way to put an interesting spin on it and make it so it's something every dealership feels it is essential their PM reads, then it might work.

Omg. That made me remember the cleaning guy at an old dealership I worked at shoved one of the salesmen's chap sticks up his ass because he didn't like the dude. Keep posting your stories. I'll be forward these all to Larry David for sitcom consideration LOL

Had a metal mesh floor above the small parts bins at my old Dealership in Sunnyvale. The Parts Manager Ron (last name deleted) was up there doing inventory on air filters stored up there. Partsman Doug (last name deleted) was just below him digging through a drawer when Ron decided to pull out the old John Thomas, take his cup of luke warm coffee and dribble it through the floor. Doug looks up from the splatter and sees Ron with old John in his hand staring down at him. Needless to say, HAVOC insued!!!!!

If you are looking for a satire of the stupidity of what goes on in the industry, can't help you. If you are looking for a pretty decent primer for Parts Manager, get a hold of Gary Naples' "By the Numbers." It's a little dated but still mostly valid.

I am reasonably certain Partsplant was on the serious side of what he is looking to do and if he can put it together I wish him well!!!! But you do have to admitt that work is not worth the money without laughter and the good lord knows this line of work provides bucket loads!!

Ohh I was definitely thinking of more of a serious book but it would have to have humor mixed in. I guarantee CMayne would agree that is the only way he survived the long haul in this business...You have to laugh; even at yourself to make it through most days in this business.
