Warranty Question

Figure one of you guys will have run into this...

Customer comes in 2 years and several months ago and purchases SRTA through our service department. Vehicle returns last week and, long story short, needs another SRTA--still covered under 3/100,000, but only for another month or so. Fixed it under parts warranty. The question is--does her warranty on the new SRTA run out 3yrs or 100k from the date she purchased the original SRTA, or does the warranty start over for 3/100k on the new SRTA? My thought is that it's like a battery and she's only covered for another couple months since she didn't technically PURCHASE this 2nd SRTA. Personally, I think that's crap, but I'm pretty sure that's right. Anyone know for sure?

Correct!!! Customer does not get an added 3 years/100,000K for something that was purchased 3 years ago. Customer did NOT "buy" a new SRTA so the warranty applies to the one they did buy.

Thanks CMayne. Another way of looking at it I just thought of...when you buy your car new it comes with 3/36 warranty, which covers all the components on the car. If your wiper motor goes out at 33k and GM replaces it, then it goes out again at 40k, it's on you.

Actually, for parts replaced under the new car warranty, the warranty on said part is the balance of the bumper-to-bumper OR 12 months.

From P&P manual:
"In conjunction with warranty repairs, new or remanufactured parts and accessories replaced during the warranty period are covered for any unused portion of the New Vehicle Limited or Emissions Warranties, or for the 12 month/unlimited miles Service Agent Parts and Accessories Warranties, whichever is greater."

I know your point, but in the example given that wiper motor would have a minimum 12 month warranty from installation no matter what. Same for the transmission, which falls under the extended Consumer warranties, those that are in addition to the 12/unlimited:
"Subsequent part replacements under this warranty will receive the balance of the original consumer warranty," (referring to the 3/100) "but in no event less than 12 months/unlimited miles."
(included:) GM Service Replacement Powertrain and GM Performance Parts Limited Warranty
