Subject: Retention of Parts Replaced In Connection With Recall and Field Action Repairs Listed on Attachment “A” to this Message
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The purpose of this message is to request that, until further notice from GM, all GM dealers (including Certified Elite Dealers) retain all parts replaced in vehicles as a result of any recall or field action repair referenced on Attachment A. Using standard warranty and recall-related storage procedures, all dealers should tag and securely store these parts until further notice from GM. This notice temporarily replaces and supersedes GM’s normal policy that allows a dealership to dispose of such parts 15 days after the dealership’s claim with respect to those parts is paid. Your dealership should suspend any policy or practice that permits the disposal of any parts replaced in connection with any recall or field action repair listed on Attachment A.
GM is taking this action in light of potential legal requirements to preserve certain parts. It is therefore very important that all GM dealers (including Certified Elite Dealers) retain and securely store any parts replaced in connection with any applicable recall or field action repair referenced in Attachment A to this message. GM recognizes that compliance with this request may place an additional burden on your dealership, so we sincerely apologize for not being able to provide more advanced notice. We are taking steps that may allow us in the near future to modify this parts retention requirement. We promise to advise all dealers of any changes to these instructions as soon as possible. Thank you for being a GM dealer and for cooperating with this request.
This message does not alter the procedures that all dealers are required to follow with respect to the return to GM of certain recalled ignition switch parts as set forth in GM’s communication message G-0000194414 and explanatory table. (A copy of that table is also attached to this message as Attachment “B”).
NOTE: A Global Connect Message will be sent on Monday, August 4, 2014 providing GM dealers with instructions on how to access a file to assist the parts department in identifying transactions that fall under Attachment A.
