NEW EPC RELEASE DISCS

Finally got ours loaded. I think its still updating though because it is painfully slow. Wish there was a way to turn off all the extra results. We don't use anything other than GM OE with the exception of durastop pads sometimes.. And there definitely needs to be an hourglass or something when its searching. Having to re-learn how to search for stuff.

I am also not a fan of this catalog. Why in the world is there different nomenclature between the OE and the ACDelco parts? The previous catalog was not like this.

Same part, different description...
1.069 PUMP KIT vs. ENGINE WATER PUMP
2.239 WIRE KIT vs. SPARK PLUG WIRE SET
5.017 PAD KIT vs. DISC BRAKE PAD
5.017 SHOE KIT vs. DRUM BRAKE SHOE
5.809 ROTOR vs. DISC BRAKE ROTOR
6.233 ROD KIT vs. STEERING TIE ROD END
Just to name a few.

Also, you can only narrow your search with one thing.
Ex: Previous catalog you could enter: LH,CHROME
New catalog you can only enter one (LH), or the other (CHROME), not both.

And what about the small font! I'm an old fart and the small print gives me a headache.
We finally figured out the only way to make it larger, was to change the screen resolution.

*tmundal> Go to Settings, Application Settings, Go down to and click on Select Qualifiers.
There you can change some of what is displayed.

It's not even a question of "you'll get used to it". Of course we will. But that doesn't make it a better catalog. It's too complicated and becomes inefficient when you spend more time working around all the crap you don't need just to get your job done. Like moving the text to the other side of the picture. Some folks might like that, maybe the left-handed ones, but why change it? Ergonomics? Now my DMS screen covers the part numbers because they're at the middle of the page instead of the side where we could peek around and type directly into the DMS. And the text being so small and you cant adjust it. Not to mention the oh-so-easy to use "search" functions. Heaven forbid one of my countermen minimizes or toggles a setting and it takes 5 of us to figure out how to put it back. You could go on and on with examples of bugs and glitches and engineering snafus and lack of qualified input from actual users in a dealership environment. They knew it when they released it, and sure they can fix it, but who test drove this thing? It's the simple stupid stuff like that that gets my goat. We don't have enough crap to deal with all day, the one tool I use the most just got downgraded, in my opinion. And I'll say the same thing about "old blue". It was a simple tool that was fast and efficient. Change is not always progress.

I agree about "old blue", it was a more efficient catalog. It was all downhill once Snap-on got involved

For this new catalog, much more than the last one, you need a large monitor, if not duel monitors.

I guess it is safe to say that none of the participants of this forum were involved with the piloting of the new catalog.

Count me in - Bring back the old blue screens. Never have I seen a faster catalog. Harder to learn - sure - but once you knew it, you were fast. Hit a function key and the screen was simply 'there'

Oops - I am sure there were bad things about it. Like when our server was down for three days and we didn't have a catalog. That wasn't great.

Damn - I am getting old....wishing for days of old. Yes, you know, the good ol' days...

WTF with the NOTES? The notes are sometimes there and sometimes not! This is less than helpful.

I miss being able to page through MAJOR group illustration lists. We can still page through illustrations once in the illustrations. I also would like to have seen the Broadcast Sheet stay within the VIN RPO section, instead of the drop-down.

BEWARE: When hovering over a part and the window pops up with part number & description, ALWAYS verify the part number with the text listing!!! Got burned a couple times from counter guys jotting down the number from the pop-up.

At least we can submit feedback instantly.

Other than that, it seems to be similar.

yup, I set mine to run Saturday when I left at 1PM - it was still running when I came in this morning. I killed it and rebooted

And my counterguys EPC started acting up last week with server errors <nav children> and a bunch of other errors. I called SnapOn Saturday, they logged in and restarted a service that had turned off and said if it continues, we will have to uninstall and reinstall the catalog. Think I can send them a bill for the 6 hours it takes?
