NEW EPC RELEASE DISCS

Our first couple days after install we basically had to use the online version, because the update was making it impossible to use. I think part of the issue is that they are LARGE updates, and while we have a pretty fast connection... you have to figure the servers at snapon are getting absolutely hammered by everyone at the same time trying to get these first couple updates.

If you've ever watched a Snap-On update you will you see it's the worst updating system ever created.

It doesn't bundle updates into one update like every other software company.

It downloads and installs each version one at a time and very slowly for each one.

So if you are on version say 1.32 and the current one is 1.56, you will download and install, one at a time, 1.33, 1.34, 1.35, etc...

When the new EPC came out I think it was 37 days out of current version so there were a ton of updates it had to go through.

and this new EPC updates the same way as the old one. That was one thing I had hoped was going to change but no luck there..

So I picked up 2 new PCs for parts to finally rid ourselves of Windows XP. Installed the new EPC on the first one on Tuesday morning and started the update process - 77 days out of date.

It is now Thursday morning and the update is still running. Since there's no real rush getting this done, I hit cancel so I can see how many days out of date it is now from the original 77.

It's now been unwinding the last part of the update for the past hour and a half.

I feel really bad for the people that need to get it installed and running in a hurry cause it ain't gonna happen.

Imagine having to reinstall this in another month or so when it's over 100 days out of date.

This kind of software update wouldn't be acceptable in any other type of program by any other company, that's for sure.

I'll update when I can actually find out how much of this update is really left

LOL - that's crazy

Here's an update. After 3 hours of it trying to wind back the update I cancelled, I hit close (since cancel had already been pressed), closed the EPC, rebooted, loaded EPC again, went to updates and could not get it to tell me how many days out it was - it would just say updates are available. Details showed 7/23, 7/25and 7/27 I think.

I said screw it and started the update manually again and within 5 minutes it was done - Update completed successfully.

Rebooted, checked again - Product is up to date.

so X476 - try that, it might finish right up for you

We have 3 stand alone computers in our parts dept., I updated 2 of them and am holding off on the last one. We ran into an issue yesterday on a 2007 Cobalt when we looked up rear brake shoes for it. The new computer did not list ACDelco Advantage shoes for it and I knew we stocked them, went over to the old catalog and looked them up and sure enough they show #19255645 as fitting vehicle, Vin.#1G1AL15F377367581. I am going to contact Snap On in regards to this issue, I know it is something that needs to be corrected. We looked pretty dumb saying we didn;t have shoes for a Cobalt.
