Sold parts back in stock/inventory? What do you do with them

Sold parts back in stock/inventory? What do you do with them

Postby LOWAIRD1964 » Tue Aug 25, 2015 1:27 pm

How many of you put parts back in stock. I have guys here who will do a job and either order extra parts and dont use them or just figure out later they didnt need them and give them back. Just curious in your opinion what is the best option for me to do with these parts. Do I put part back in inventory, (will this screw with RIM)?, RETURN CSO? or just a monthly? Or just chuck them? Please give me some opinions for my best options. Thanx!

If those parts are not now, or normally in inventory, put them back in a separate source and put all of them on MO (manual order) or AP (automatic phase out)

You can put them in inventory if you think you'll move them. If you have to adjust inventory watch your compliance level on same day repair. Even if you take them off of a repair order they can count against you if it happens in two different months.

I use return reserve. When a part comes back I put it on a spread sheet and once a month return then along with some older parts that are not RIM

I have separate sources for Sales Returns, Service Returns, Body Shop Returns and Wholesale Returns so I can track them that way.
I also have a Special Order Return Log Excel file to track them so I can see if the same tech is just ordering parts that he doesn't really need.
Helps with my annual inventory meeting so I can show where the owners $ is tied up and why...

I learned this much in dealing with REEM and inventory control. If you are taking a part off of an RO and you do not do it as a return (QTY -1 etc.) then you have screwed up the works with REEM. They have NO comprehension of daily plus and minus adjustments and offer NO protection. If you take the part being removed and write a credit quantity on the job line, IE: line B on RO sold qty 2 3634621 below that -1 3634621(listen to the service writers piss and moan over this) then REEM picks it up as a "Return sale" and you get some "chance" of protection if it was an inventory (REEM) part in the first place. If it was a S/O it does not matter anyway as you ARE going to foot the bill. Share the percentage love with the service dept....

Rule for me: If it was not ordered as stock it gets returned, even if we stock it. If we still need one it can be stock ordered.

Nothing that is CSO ordered should be on the shelf, unless it is backordered or a recall.

Why not put the part in stock to try and sell it first?

Are we talking parts that were left billed/paid on RO and not installed? If so putting back in stock, returning or selling again is technically (legally) not right.

If just extra parts from a job.... first thing to do is stop whoever is ordering more than needed.
