all done too

all done too

Postby ddeneen » Thu Aug 27, 2015 2:23 pm

Well it has finally happened. after years of inuendo and rumors, we were informed last week that this dealership is being closed. can't say as i blame the owner, he is past retirement age and with GM's facility requirements it does not make sense to go on. The dealership has been sold to a neighboring dealer and the property has been sold to a convienience store chain.
We are basically in the dark as to when the final day is so it is a day to day existence. i have already stopped the RIm ordering and am slowly getting rid of stock. supposedly the new dealer will buy what stock is left and sellable , then there will be an auction of all remaining stock and the equipment in the building.
I don't really know what i am going to be doing as far as employment. i am thinking about early retirement and part time work but i just don't know. i have been offered a job at a neighboring dealership but it is farther , more hours and less pay so i don't think i will be doing that.

I too wish you the best of luck.

FYI - you are not alone. A dealer that we have worked with on several occasions, less than 50 miles from us, is closing its doors at the end of the August. He too decided it just wasn't worth continuing.

It's really sad that this is exactly what GM wants.

You still should be able to do a termination and send a lot of parts back to GM that way.

All the signs that I see coming from GM is that they are done with family or single owner dealerships. They prefer corporate or
large dealer groups as owners. With all of the profit squeezing they have done to their dealer body since "The Reorganization",
they feel the larger groups are better equipped financially to deal with all the "Enhancements" they have created now and in
the future. All of the franchisees are is a means to provide "Value to the Shareholders"

I have accepted a job closer to home making less than what i am now but with a shorter work week. I will be full time (4 days a week) until the end of the year and then transition to part time(3 days) as i start drawing my social security. Is it perfect? nah not really but it is something i can deal with. It is going to take an adjustment in living style but as long as i can pay my bills and enjoy time with my family i will be ok.
I will be working with people i worked with 8 years ago and have stayed in contact with all along. One BIG plus is i will not be in management and will not have the associated headaches. The organization is a dealership family with their own Carquest in house store which is where i will be.
Am i excited ? i got over being excited about work a long long time ago. Is my wife excited? well-------- :D
