He had an aftermarket key and wanted me to drop what I was doing and cut it for him. I refused, he went to the owner and we cut the key for him. Owner says he is a customer because he has had work done here. I say if you go to a steakhouse and give the waitress a cheap steak and ask them to cook it for you, they would throw you out.

We charge to cut a customer supplied key with no guarantees and no refund if it doesn't work.

I have made a customer buy one of our keys, even though he had his own that he wanted cut.

Simply put, I had no way of verifying that his key would work on his vehicle.

I don't care if THEIR key works on their vehicle or not. I just make it clear to them that I am NOT replacing their key for any reason that it don't work ,before I consent to anything. If they get smart with me, no way.

Nope. Never. Same as the steak analogy. We turn these customers away if they don't want to purchase our keys. We also don't accept tires shipped here from Tire Rack and have refused deliveries. It is quite arrogant to go somewhere with that mentality and expect to not be turned away.

FYI: I no longer cut keys that are purchased somewhere else.

REASON: the shaft was made differently from the manufacture and broke my bit. He insisted on getting a free key from me.

I said, "sure, once you pay for the bit YOUR key just broke".

I have always refused keys purchased elsewhere. Another good reason to add to my list
