Looking for the policy on returning exhaust cores (cut cat out)

Check the P&P manual starting on page 59. I think what you are looking for specifically, though, is on page 61...

 Catalytic converters in excess of 3 feet must have the pipes cut off and the inlet and outlet openings sealed with duct tape.

It's funny because when I have a y-pipe setup, that usually seems to be what takes up the most time of the whole core return process for that particular application...the cutting and the taping.

I've always sent the whole y-pipe back in one piece, never had a problem. I do cut the ones off if the pipe is ove 5 foot.

My dedicated driver must have been grumpier than most. When I had set them out in the past, I had a copy of the section in the P&P manual with the "3 feet" part highlighted and was told that he was not able to take them. Even after a few phone calls, I got the answer of, "Well if it says 3 feet and it's longer, then you have to cut". Of course, that was with a driver that we no longer have...maybe I will test the waters with the current driver.

Might be dumb question but what do you guts use to cut them with (we use recip. saw) problem is the blades only last for 2-3 cuts. Doesn't seem to matter what brand of blades.

There are no dumb questions.

When we cut our convertors, our one parts guy brings his metal chop saw. Greatly speeds up the process.
