But Doug and I hang out about once a week still and he stops in the dealership all the time to see whats going on. I use to help with the office work for the consulting business while Joanne was sick. That's why Fagans popped when I read that. What a small world. we are only about an hour and a half or two hours south of Fagan's dealership.

Small world it is, JMShocker, I doubt Doug would remember me, I was only there about a year, my youngest son had a near fatal auto accident in Jan the weekend after I moved to WI, and we went back when he had a major surgery pending in Dec 2005. Quick geography trivia response without googling, is that Roscoe, IL where Doug lives ???

DWoodward, the financial part is spooky, but my hot button is HEALTH, I still have mine at least for today. IF you have 40 in then check your Social Security statement and make some important decisions for YOU. You need 35 GOOD years of income to max your check. Early is not right for everyone but regardless what all the high powered financial planners say the best time to draw your social security is while you are alive! My benefit has jumped several hundred dollars the last 8 years.

Grab a book by Mike Piper, CPA,... "SOCIAL SECURITY MADE SIMPLE" it is a quick read and the file and suspend changes that took effect May 1st are already out of date in the book (I was not old enough to qualify had to be 62 by Dec 31st, 2015, I turned 62 in March). Still a ton of good info in the book and the FRA adjustment is one that none of the planers tell you about, at least none that I have listened to.

At the end of the day take a look at the PRESENT value of the stream of income the monthly checks for age 62 and FRA (66 for me) generate and make your decision based on that, your health and other variable factors. Good Luck with your decision, and remember every GM parts manager that retires (I stepped down for 8 years) makes room for another sucker, er I mean qualified candidate to fill. (CMayne would get a laugh outta that one)

I remembered it started with an R, I used to drive I-39 then I-74, back home to Columbus, Chicago and I are like oil and water. Ok, I looked real close to I-88. Wife and I used to do weekend meetings in Champaign early in my employment there. Thanks again, take care, and good luck!
