Our parts department is a one person show. Has been since the bankruptcy thing in 2009. PM has been doing a great job. I sometimes get in his way (help) but not too often anymore. I cover when he is on vacation. Currently he takes care of 4 mechanics, 2 body guys and 2 decent wholesale customers and EVERYTHING else.

Too much - sure it is.

Small dealership.

We all wear so many hats we need another head.

Did it for a couple years at small Chevrolet dealer. 80 to 100k per month. For the most part I loved it.
Always in early, never stayed late.

I did it for about 6 months in a dual franchise (GM AND FORD). It wasn't bad, had no down time throughout the day but you knew every single thing about the department.

The only bad thing was trying to help 10 mechanics and counter customers and phone calls. Most people understood, but there were several that thought they were the most important people in the world and that my only job was to wait on them. Oh, if only it were that easy.

I now have a helper, and there's days I wish I could do back to a one man crew.
