Putting Rim parts that are sold back in inventory

Putting Rim parts that are sold back in inventory

Postby LOWAIRD1964 » Fri Jan 06, 2017 3:38 pm

Ok this is eating me up so I will sell a part in the shop and a tech brings it back and says here I didn't use it. You can have it back. Ok so I really want to add it back into inventory but what am I noticing I am ending up with parts left on shelf after my RIM returns. Rim will call back 1 part but I will have 2 on the shelf both ordered by rim. This has been going on for a while here. I took over as manager in 2014 but worked for company for 8 years and It has been going on since iv been here. Tech will just bring back parts and the old manager would just put them back in stock but now I feel like its kind of coming back around and biting me. It doesn't happen as often since I took over maybe a gasket or 2 here and there and I am just wondering what to do. Usually I always check to see how many and how fast I am selling the part before I put it back into inventory. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

This will drive you nuts………. We all have plenty of time now that we don’t think about sales, marketing, promos, customers, so this should be easy. If you sell a part in one month and it is returned the following month RIM cannot see this and it will only protect the recently ordered one. You have to call RIM so they can investigate the return and then maybe they will give you protection on both. I’m positive you will remember this 15 months from now when RIM generates a return. I have had conversations with RIM people about this and I don’t have a good solution on how to track or verify that RIM is doing it correctly. You just have to trust them. YA!!! I also have numerous parts that I try to return on a monthly and when I pull them I see a big R### control number. Who knows if the parts that are sold one day and returned the next are even seen and protected? Everything is always hidden with GM. TRUST EM!!

Like you say, with all the extra time we have, just make a note on the part and when times comes for RIM to pick up a return and the extra part is not covered on the return, bill the part back to the Service Dept. and let them know this is how it will be from now on. Things Happen ! and there are ways to deal with it, but all parties involved, techs and counter people need to be as careful as can be,, knowing that RIM will not watch out for us.

We always have overage at physical inventory. So to offset some taxes my owner always gives me a write off to scrap, usually the parts over 24 months because RIM is covering up to 15.

So that's where my RIM cancer goes, in the dumpster.
