Am I Nuts!?!?!?

Suggestion:

See what is out there, quietly apply for position you could live with if you have to. Once you have that 'back-up' possibility speak with your owner / GM - whomever makes the decision. If you feel comfortable enough you don't have to have a 'back-up' plan in place before the talk. Explain your concerns and professionally ask for more money.

I don't know where you are located or what your sales are, but if you are a one man show working all those hours you are, like others have said, underpaid. I would think a minimum salary of $50,000 plus bonus / commission would be a suitable beginning. What are their alternatives a $35k manager with a $15k assistant. And think of the cost of mistakes...

The manager at our other store is a great guy. We get along great. He has helped me and I have saved him many times (he's been doing this 20+years). Funny thing is, he is a 2 man operation. I just feel that I get un-noticed I guess.

Those curious on #s...

10/hr hourly, 40 hours. Overtime is 15/hr. I punch right around 15-18 hours overtime. Takehome is $470-500 net/week. Commission is $500-700/month (depending on what we do obviously). I will have to check some of my papers out, I think its 3% but I don't recall if its off of gross or net. From some quick calculations from our gross for December from the DOC, it appears to be paid off of gross (going off of what I've received so far).

Vacation is a PITA. It pretty much revolves around the other manager's schedule or the fixed op's schedule. Last time I took two days was in September. I have one in February scheduled.

My fear always is that I know the ins and out of this place. What's coming in, PO's issued for incoming ACDelco/Aftermarket/Tire/etc. purchases. Things in the past have been done incorrectly when the wrong person watches for me while I'm out.

If i'm calculating correctly, you'd be at 400 hourly + 300 overtime (@ 15 hours) + 125 commission (500/4) for a total of 825 pre tax income for 1 week. So 825 / 55 = $15. For comparison I am a straight $15/hr putting in roughly 52 hours a week. On my last paycheck, I was paid 1588 for 102.5 hours of work, which comes to $15.50 an hour. I have been parts manager for 6 months, and run a dual franchise (GM AND FORD).

I am underpaid and I know it. However, only being here 6 months I am waiting for the right time to bring up an increase in rate, or adding commission to my paycheck.

You are paid hourly and don't get overtime?

I do get paid overtime. However, due to the fact there were two holidays on that paycheck it made I averaged to $15.50, whereas I get $15 hr, $22.50 if overtime
