Commission on GM Accessories?

Commission on GM Accessories?

Hello everyone, new member here. I've been working in parts at a Buick/GM dealer for a little over a year now and wanted to get some feedback. There are four of us in parts total, I work at the front counter and take care of walk ins and the phone, the other three guys work the back counter and deal with the techs. We have two accessory reps up front in sales that sell a large volume of GM Accessories and Weathertech floor liners. Since I started here, I take care of ALL the ordering for the accessory reps. Once they sell the accessories, they print out a sheet and take it back to me. Half the time they don't even bother to look up the part numbers, or the parts numbers are incorrect, so I have to double check everything, check availability on the parts, order them, keep the paperwork on file, check them in, tag them with the customers info, ect. They refuse to call the Accessory warehouse or any other vendor for info, tracking numbers, part numbers, ect. They also only order from me because the manager refuses to get involved with accessories in any way, and the other guy always messes up the orders. I am straight hourly and do not receive ANY commission from parts or accessories. What do you guys think about this?

You just described a Parts Associates job in a small dealership and as such all of the tasks are normal and natural. Commission based employees are paid that way if they are direct producers, or it is the company/department norm. In your example someone else is producing, Accessory Representatives, you are facilitating. Are the other three Parts Associates salaries commission based, if so what is the criteria to become so? If you aren't satisfied with your compensation or feel that you have outperformed it consider a conversation with your supervisor to discuss it and your career path.
