NET ITEMS!

NET ITEMS!

Postby Denise Trimble » Fri Apr 28, 2017 9:10 pm

During as recent training session, our Service manager was told there may be a list of billable Net Items which exists. I can only find the item codes for the submission fields in GlobalConnect; listed in the P&P manual. I am unaware of a list as each Warranty Admin. has their own, I'm sure. In the event I am wrong, which is likely, have any of you heard of this before? I have looked through my notes, and I do not remember seeing it.

Thank you for your help!

Having been a previous warranty administrator I know there are many items that GM wants billed out in the
"net items" field of a warranty claim. Some of these items on the list include: rentals, shuttles, public transportation,
towing, sublet, paint materials, admin allowance, freight, parts expediting, customer reimbursements.

Refer to the warranty procession manual pages 31-34 article 3.4.7

I have also seen them wanting fluids, oil, coolant billed out in "net" but this changes bulletin by bulletin.

I am not sure if this is the list your service manager heard of but it is the only list I know of.

Many items can NOT be billed to warranty (and recall) claims any longer. Many times items such as tie straps, electrical tape, sealers, etc. etc. are deemed to be shop supplies and CANNOT be billed. If a bulletin calls out a specific GM part number (tie strap for example) that number can be billed - but only if you actually use that specific item.

This has been one of my issues with GM for a long time. I have fought this fight and continue to lose it. GM expects us to bill shop supplies as part of our labor rate, which of course causes our rate to be "higher" than independent competition - "gotta keep C/P rate above warranty" and cannot factor in shop supplies, if billed separately, as part of the labor rate.

That said - back to your question. There are many things that can be billed in net. I know of no comprehensive list. ANY SPECIAL TOOL THAT INCLUDES CONSUMABLE ITEMS can and should be billed into net - only the consumable part. Things like timesert thread repairs, wire terminals, A/C pipe repairs, some fluids. The last bulletin I have that was printed showing breakdown of fluid billing is no longer available on Global. It was in the old Global library but was lost when the old site was taken down.

IF YOU FIND A BULLETIN LISTING A COMPLETE NET-ITEM DESCRIPTION - PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I too am tired of losing money.

You are absolutely correct. There is no list of "net items" such as tie straps, tape, sealants that can be claimed under warranty. GM factors these items into your labor rate and thinks that your labor rate should cover
these expenses. Ya right! The exceptions for this are if a bulletin states to claim a shop supply item in the "net item" field but that is rare. The only lists that I know of are in the warranty claims processing manual on pages 31-34 article 3.4.7 and on page 182 article 10.8

Thank you all for the time to respond. As I suspected, it probably does not exist. I don't recall seeing it. My comment to him was that it may be like the old labor op which paid a tech to test a "known good" part, from another vehicle, which has since faded into oblivion IF it ever existed to begin with.

I appreciate it!
