Well, ya it is, because, well, ya know, it's ONLY PARTS.

While I agree the counter people shouldn't be doing it unbeknownst to the DP and PM... take for instance transmission 19180251, several dealers show this at cost -24%. If I buy that at that price, and still sell it at "list" I just made $528 of extra gross on it for the dealership.

One could argue by allowing the counter people to get these cards, they might seek out the most profitable solutions for you...

Plus most of these big power train dealers ship far faster than GM does.

I tend to agree, it doesn't take much to drop a number to the order que, but I think it should be somewhat rewarded for taking the extra time to find the best deal. If you don't want them to have them specifically, I would opt for the Parts Manager to use them to purchase lunches, snacks etc.

Most dealers I've bought from show up in one to two days, GM generally takes the same time if not longer.

Personally I would never take a dime from a vendor for any reason, but if a dealer is worried about a measly gift card for a counter person from another dealer when they’re going to make the purchase anyway, he probably should get into a different business

The term 'Sour Grapes' comes to mind.

Letter probably originated from one of the wholesale engine suppliers that have chosen to offer FREE OVN instead of other incentives like a gift card.
