Does anyone here work at a dealership that does not have a body shop? I am curious as to how you handle the training side of things with GM in that area. Apparently the lack of a body shop and the training in that area is affecting our standing with GM on our overall training percentages.....which in turn is bringing our numbers down.

I'm looking for answers to get around this and hopefully someone here has the answer!

Our Service Manager has asked our ASM but cannot get a straight answer.

We don't have a body shop, and we're also in TN. We usually piggyback the closest dealership that does have a body shop.

Isn't there a different setup for dealers that don't have a body shop?

We do not have an in-house Body Shop but are partnered with a large collision shop in town that does all the factory training for GM and MB and purchases the required tools. They are enrolled in our mfgr training programs, as Body Shop Manager and the tech training also (paint, frame etc.) In turn they get all of our warranty and exclusive referral work, and we get all of their parts orders for our brands.

no body shop here , our local body shop takes I-Car courses and ASE whatever is left that GM requires I have a tech take the needed body courses and you should be ok . Per P&P manual GM hereby authorizes the Service Agent to select as necessary an alternative repair establishment for body repair service, and no further approval is required from GM. If GM receives customer complaints regarding the work performed by a particular establishment, GM reserves the right to withdraw its approval for such establishment, GM will consult with Service Agent before withdrawing such approval.

We do not have a bodyshop here. We sublet all of body repair work to our local bodyshop. We have contracted our work to them and they agreed to have one of their
technicians take all of the GM training body courses. That technician is also i-car and ase certified so he is fully trained on the GM bodyshop profile. We actually have his
name in our training database as an employee of our dealership.
