Chevrolet Recall Part return program

I have finished compiling a data base which contains every returnable part number that applies to Chevrolet recalls. These parts are all returnable by writing a pc659 claim and do not affect your return reserve. We have a extraction company to dial into your system and extract your inventory. All you have to do from there is click on a link and within a minute a report will be generated against your inventory. You can sort by 3,6,9,12, month no sale. You can also sort by recall number in ascending to descending order by cost by recall number by qty by numerical part number. Keep in mind that many of these parts that were ordered for recall purposes or automatically sent to the dealer body end up as idle inventory. There is no good reason to use your hard earned return reserve to return these parts when a claim will extend those dollars.

I am also looking for a company to partner with this project. If interested e-mail me vernon@fdealerco-op.com. If you are just interested as a individual parts manager we can work out the details

Will beta test this week with 3 dealers to get a good feel of the dollar return

Run a beta test against 2 different inventories. 8200.00 12 month no sales on 1. 5900.00 12 month no sale on recall parts on the next. Stay tuned for any problems I may encounter.

Vernon,

you got me thinking.

What if,
When you added a part for recall purposes, you added the recall number in a misc field.
Then you could use a report generator to find all parts that had data in that misc field and produce a sales (or lack of sales report)

I realize going backwards in time to update these fields would be agonizing, but from this point forward would produce great reports this time next year.

You are indeed correct. I suggested to the test dealers we ran this report for 2 put these parts in a seperate source. See the real problems with recall parts and recalls in general have never been defined, these parts and the excess of these parts is so very hard to control because the manufacturers control the mailings even though the recalls themselves are applied to the manufacturers by the nhtsa. Perception has a lot to do with these parts also. Most parts managers think these parts are sold out in most cases because of the volume of some recalls. Far from it. The sales of any parts that apply to any single recall will usually slow down or stop as fast as they start often leaving a huge excess because of the previous first couple months mass sales. There is also way to many recalls applied over a years time to possibly remember all the part numbers. But once again perception stands in the way that the ole memory is very good. To most parts managers perception is reality. I also have a master of all the returnable and expired recall parts for Ford. Ford printed a list on their website about a year ago but it to is way short of actual returnable parts by their standards and according to their bible policy and procedure. With the reduction in return dollars by the manufacturer this is a good extension. You are correct but you need to source these parts by themselves. You will the see on a stockorder suggestion when sourced by theselves how sales tend to fade in a dramatic fashion. By sourcing seperate they will print on a stockorder seperate or any reports for that matter. By sourcing seperate even with high sales over 2-3 months you will know they are recall parts and can focus on this sorce on suggested stockorder to tame down on ordering which will prevent excess.
