"Ineligible For Return" Question

"Ineligible For Return" Question

Postby Kaju65 » Tue May 22, 2018 5:38 pm

Hi everyone, new GM Parts Manager here and I have a question for you all. I attempted to return a part using our Return Reserve dollars and the claim came back as 'ineligible for return'. The part is an engine that we've had in inventory for a couple of years and is still available from GM. I made sure I have enough to cover the engine. Is there an age limit or $ amount limit that would cause the claim to be denied? I can't seem to find any criteria for this type of return.

Check on global connect on the locator. If the part has a "N" under the Return heading, you are stuck with it. GM will not take it back.

If you ordered it CSO within 12 months you could return it and take a 35% hit.

You didn't so you can't.

If you generated enough return reserve to return an engine you must be a decent sized dealership. Therefore, one would "assume" that you are RIM compliant and have the opportunity to cash-out return reserve at 75 cents on the dollar. If so, cash out the reserve you were going to use on the engine and "mark-down" the engine's cost and sell it on D2D.

This is one way to perhaps get rid of the engine and not use any more reserve than you were going to use anyway. Besides some other dealer gets a good deal and you should be able to get more than 25% of cost and net out more money in the end.

Just a thought.

So I had a happy ending to my dilemma regarding my quest to return an engine to GM. While it was true that this engine was 'ineligble for return', I was able to receive a special return after contacting my DM. He had me gather together certain documents as well as write a letter to the GM gods with the reasons I needed to return this engine. Shortly after I received my return paperwork and sent off the engine, and last week I received my refund from GM! It didn't go against my Reserve but they did charge me a 14% fee. Persistence paid off!
