GM DEALERS.. RIM AND GM PARTS SOURCES

GM DEALERS.. RIM AND GM PARTS SOURCES

Postby CTB » Mon Jun 18, 2018 3:27 pm

Back in the day when parts managers managed their own inventories and submitted stock orders, IMO all the different GM parts sources had much more purpose than they do now. For instance Source 100 is the default source but depending on "SALES" a part could "graduate" to a different source based on it's sales history. I do still have chemicals in their own source and oil etc. but how many of you since RIM have just gone down to source 100 and eliminated all the (I will call un-needed) additional sources since we basically don't pull our own stock orders any longer?

I only source tires, accessories, aftermarket, oil, batteries. So yes, with RIM control I don't source anything separately on regular GM stuff.

I use sources for other reasons. For pricing purposes. E.g. Tires batteries and accessories are in their own source to price at a certain level. Also for parts that are NOT returnable to our manufacturer, I put them in a separate source so I know not to try to return them again.

Thank You, I've never wiped the "other sources" out so I feel the need to do it now.... will have to find a quick way to move them to 100. The others I use for other reasons I will leave alone! Thanks for your input.

If you are on Reynolds it's pretty simple, it's just choosing an option and takes about 3 minutes for everything to move to where you want it. I can't remember how exactly, if you are Reynolds just call in to the help desk and they can walk you through it.

If you're on CDK, just go into PM and do a batch change. Tell it to take everything in source whatever and change it to source 100.
It will give you a list of the numbers it selects if you want to review them before actually changing them.

I have oil, tires, aftermarket parts, GM acc, and aftermarket acc is different sources. I also have non RIM parts that I stock in its own source. I basically use the different sources so I can run stock orders for each source.

Same here, and also sources for pricing reasons (filters, batteries, obsolescence). And still run a stock order everyday.
