CDK supersession?

CDK supersession?

Is there a way to automatically supersede part numbers in CDK?
I know how to use PNC, but I would think that the system should automatically update them. (at least on a monthly basis)

Yes, it can be done.
Check your setups in MSSO

MSSO
DISPLAY SOURCES (Y/N/EX)........................ ?Y
CHANGE OR ADD SOURCES (Y/N/EX).................. ?Y
ENTER OPTION:
1 = ESCALATOR
2 = SOURCE CONTROLS
3 = SOURCE DESCRIPTIONS......................... ?2
ENTER SOURCES (E.G., 1 2 4 OR 7-15 OR ALL)...... ?ALL
SORT BY SOURCE................................ Y ?Y

You can set up PNC’s to happen when you run PMU (Price Master Update).
It’s a setting within Field Maps.
Make sure you understand how you are adjusting Maps.

It all depends how you prefer to handle them.

If you’ve got zero OH, immediate PNC’s make sense. Delay PNC’s work well for OH parts that the Master Tape identifies a supersession is forthcoming. The new number is added, but the OH remains with the superseded part number. This way if there are Price differences, what you actually own (Accounting Dept) the part for is accurate. The downside to this occurs when folks are trying to locate the ‘new’ number.

The upside is RIM will still protect the old number if it was ordered through RIM. If you use the ‘default’ CDK Sources set up specifically for GM, the old numbers will sort to Source 100 where you can monitor your parts on file that have been superseded with an OH. This helps prevent missing the opportunity to return ‘Unprotected’ parts that need to be returned within 12 months from the Supersession Date. The DESC will show the Month and Year the supersession occurred. You also get the credit for the value you actually paid when purchasing.

After running PMU, you can run RPC (Report Parts Changes) and identify any supersessions that occurred during the update, with and without OH.

Everyone has their own preferences. All I know is that you won’t find a part in our inventory with a hand written or relabled ID tag.

Hope this helps.

The downside to delayed PNC is the new # can get phased out and deleted from your DMS and you are stuck with an old number with no supersession history.
You will need the part one day but the catalog will list the new part # and you won't know you have the old one in stock.
