Internal used car inspection
Internal used car inspection
My dealer wants us to make sure every vehicle that comes through gets a extensive inspection and anything that needs to be replaced better be caught and done or at least quoted to the customer. If we have a internal vehicle it gets gone through. We put a parts list together and submit it to the owner. 9 times out of 10 it is approved and we can completely fix the car then sell it. Some vehicles we do over a thousand dollars worth of work to make it perfect for the next customer. I can honestly say I work for a honest dealership.

Service advisor: Sir, your truck needs frt brakes, here's an estimate of what it's going to cost.
Customer : No thanks, I have a guy for that
(me laughing cause he has a guy to do brakes. but he doesn't trust him to do the $35 LOF)

Cynical attitudes will feed your competitors too.
Either something about the price is not competitive ($35 LOF defiantly is, or the customer wouldn't have been there) or the service advisor is failing to sell the customer on the "value" and benefits of getting a more expensive brake job done by the dealership with high quality OEM parts.

If your used car dept is taking that to an independant shop and getting the work done you have BIG problemsbsnyder723 wrote:Multi-Point Inspections... Feeding the independent auto repair market for 25 years!!smoyer wrote:MPI

I worked at a dealership that would send used cars out for brakes, exhausts and alignments. But my comment was more towards the cash customer MPI, not the internal used car inspections.
Re: Internal used car inspection
I guess it all depends on the background of the owner. I worked for a western US group who's owner started in the parts dept. The only time aftermarket parts were used was on a car that they didn't sell. If they had a sister store the parts came from them. No used cars were sent to independent shops.
Later I worked for a midwest dealer group. The owner started with a used car lot. You can guess the rest. Sales wanted everything at cost or less. Anything more than a LOF went to some alley shop. Writers would call NAPA and then try to beat up the parts dept on prices for CP work. I retired early from this mess.

How long ago was this? because I would think that today they would take a sizable hit on Purchase loyalty.

If this is in reference to the post right above yours it was a Chrysler store over 10 years ago.
