Inventory Overage

Inventory Overage

Postby bobs96 » Tue Feb 09, 2021 10:58 pm

We have 3 stores that all had an overage in the last 2 years. 19k, 14k, 9k.this year. We are on Dealertrack. I have checked manufacture posting. Vendor posting, all stocking groups are relieving inventory, miss posted credit to inventory, cost changes, price updates, all gp% in range, no free parts except some antifreeze/brake fluid from techs, no over costed parts..... Any ideas. I find it hard to believe that if this was a posting error that it has happened at all 3 stores as an overage. I want to think it's a set up issue but cannot find anything that stands out. No help from dealertrack. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable with dealertrack and the accounting side and have ran numerous reports looking for something to stand out. Stumped. Please Help. Thanks.
By the way yes I did find some miss posted GL Entries but those are easy to find if posted to parts account.

An inventory variance is normal (1%+/-) but when looking at it as a dollar value you could be a hero or a zero. In other words, if you and I drop a $100.00 bill we are knocking over people to get it, Jeff Bezos probably keeps walking. Don't tax your resources to find it if you are within guides as there are many reasons for PAD/GL variances. I do this for a living and have a single spaced document stating the possible reasons for variance and it is four pages in length. As Zep said, appreciation/depreciation is one of the biggest. It needs to be handled in a specific manner during a short open window as soon as price tapes run. This is exacerbated by some manufacturers that are running daily price tapes now.

I usually have a inventory of about 400,000 and so far 2 years in a row my overage was around 40,000.

I am wondering if I could get a copy of that 4 page document that you have?
