DEF tank return to WPC

DEF tank return to WPC

Postby ZOT MOLT » Tue Feb 16, 2021 2:35 pm

Has anyone had to return a DEF tank to the WPC from the 2021 trucks? They are hard to get all of the fluid drained out. None of the modules come out, so you are left trying to drain as much as you can from the fill port. The WPC does not classify this as HAZMAT so would you cap off the openings the best you can and just send it UPS? Thanks for any advise.

Stuff some dry-sorb mats into it to get rid of all the liquid? Then let it air dry for a few days. if not seal all the holes. Wow is that ridiculous that you cant get the module separately. does it come apart from the bottom?

The modules go in from the bottom, and even our diesel tech said there was no way he could see to get them out. His opinion was that the wires that supply the heaters are not big enough and causing an overheat situation or thermal event. You can't buy the module or wiring separately, you buy the whole tank. That is, when they are not on back order.

message that I received from the WPC.

Good morning, no these are not considered hazmat and you can drill a hole in the part to drain it.
Thank you

Thanks for sharing the info. I will probably have 1 or 2 more to send back if I ever get them from GM.

we've done 8 and have 3 here to install, and have 18 on order, 7 were shipping today, so hopefully everyone will start receiving them soon.
I sure hope that I do not have to return all of these.
