Parts Ecommerce

Parts Ecommerce

I'm really surprised no one else has asked about this yet..

What does everyone think of GM wanting to enable customers to look up parts on an online catalog and have them shipped to them or have the part shipped to the dealer?

From what I understand, we get credit for the sale if the customer has part shipped to us or if they have it shipped directly to them.

From what I understand, we get return reserve money in either scenario.

I don't like the idea.

I'm worried about the return side of things.

Fraud, ie customer orders part, claims that box was empty and wants their money back.

Anyone else talking about this?

Been doing them since the program started.

Believe it or not only had a few issues with claims (incorrect part ordered, had one where the part wasn't in the box that was shipped, rewards issues)…

Once you get a process it's not that bad and we still make some profit for not having to do a bulk of the work so I don't mind it now that everything is set up properly.

We do the online accessories, its been working.

But people looking up their own parts without a VIN, AND dealer is responsible for fraud claims. I don't think so. Think about all those Escalade shocks you'll be shipping to the Congo.

This is the type of thing I worry about.

I honestly don't want to do it.

We have been processing Ecommerce orders since early implementation. It is for accessories only. We have had very few issues so far, mostly with backordered parts. Other than that, it's been fairly smooth sailing.

THE REASON GM IS SETTING THIS UP IS TO SEE HOW VIABLE THE BUSINESS MODEL IS.
THEY WILL CUT YOU OUT OF THE PICTURE ONCE YOU START MAKING MONEY.

THEY ARE THERE FOR PROFIT. THATS WHAT THEY TELL ME AT LEAST.

I am a MOPAR dealer and have been selling parts and accessories online for 4 years now. I have sold this year so far, 1.8 million online with only 109k in returns. the profit margin is small but does well. The fraud isn't too bad to deal with. I use revolution parts to handle all of the orders and there are markers for fraud. Each customer is given a fraud risk score and you can tell who to sell to and who to cancel
